This
association is named after
a great hero of the Macedonian people, Alexander of Macedon
(Alexander the Great). Alexander of Macedon (356-323 BC), the
king of Macedonia that conquered the Persian empire and
annexed it to Macedonia, is considered one of the greatest
military geniuses of all times. He is the first king to be
called "the Great." Alexander's victories at Granicus, Issus,
and Gaugamela put an end to the Persian Empire, which was then
replaced by the Macedonian Empire stretching from Europe, to
Egypt and India.
